TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Paw Creek

Senior Pet Care

Aches, pains, and other possible discomforts are not uncommon for older pets. In fact, they are quite natural and even expected for the aging process. Here at TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Paw Creek, it is our mission and duty to keep your senior pet happy and healthy. We have specific tests and clinical methods that can help us to do so, such as bloodwork, glaucoma screening, digital radiology, and urinalysis, along with semi-annual wellness check-ups.

Senior Pet Care

Since pets age much faster than humans, it’s very important for both you and our team to be aware and vigilant of your senior pet’s specific needs and health. In even a few months, a lot can happen to your pet, but we’re here to help! We make sure to regularly and diligently monitor your pet’s health over time, and will perform tests to prevent or manage geriatric diseases and conditions.

Health conditions that come with your pet’s age can be naturally difficult to detect at home, especially during their earlier stages. In order to spot such conditions before they become a major issue, our trained clinical staff performs comprehensive examinations. These exams measure organ functionality, analyze vital statistics, and check for geriatric conditions. We perform four main types of tests, including glaucoma screening, bloodwork, digital radiology, and urinalysis.

  • Glaucoma screening allows our clinical team to quickly and easily identify glaucoma in your pet. Unfortunately, Glaucoma can lead to blindness, so it is highly encouraged for all senior pets. Glaucoma screening puts fast and pain-free pressure on each of your pet’s eyes, which gives our veterinarians important data to determine if your senior pet may have glaucoma.
  • Blood Work helps our clinical team notice conditions that affect pets of all ages, like anemia and infection, while also allowing them to identify issues commonly found in senior pets, such as liver and kidney diseases, diabetes, and more.
  • Digital radiology gives us images of your pets internal organs. This helps us identify and take action on possible diseases like cancer and arthritis.
  • Urinalysis allows us to hone-in specific conditions like kidney disease, diabetes, and urinary tract infections (UTIs). A urinalysis also gives us important information on your senior pet’s overall state of health and wellbeing.

Whether you detect sudden changes in your senior pet’s behavior or lifestyle, we recommend visits for all of our senior patients. You know your senior pet better than anyone else, so please be diligent and bring your pet in to TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Paw Creek if needed. Our trained clinical staff is more than happy to help your senior pet get better.
